Bringing It Home – The Saint Rose Blog

My summer, so far

Well, hello there! I hope everyone is enjoying their summer so far! I can’t believe there’s only a month and a half left till school starts. Dun dun dun! Just kidding, I’m really excited.

This school year I will be starting my senior (whaaat?) year as a Childhood Education major concentrating in Earth Science. I’m really excited to begin this new chapter in my life and graduate next December!

So far this summer I’ve done nothing but hang out with family and work. I have the coolest job ever. I work at a greenhouse every summer until the middle of July! It’s seriously the BEST job. It incorporates so many things I love: the eldery, flowers, animals, and dirt. Recently, my boss and I got done planting 1,200 mum cuttings and hundreds of mum pots and planters for the fall season. I have never been so dirty in my life! Aside from knowledge of plants, this job also acquires lots and lots of people skills. It’s really fun and interesting listening to all the different stories people come in with. The wildlife is also really cool! Well, if you like bugs that is… I did get chased by a woodchuck this year, though! That was… awkward. How many people can say that happened to them?

In a few weeks, I will be representing Saint Rose in Spartansburg, South Carolina as a site leader for the non-profit organization Break Away the Alternative Break connection or “ABC’s” for short. I’m honestly so excited for this opportunity as tons of people from across the country applied for the 10 spots. I am planning on bringing everything back to our campus and applying it in the Community Service office. I may even be speaking to some new students about the opportunities Saint Rose offers as far as volunteering! I hope to get to Middleburg sometime soon myself to do some work down there, they still really need help.

That’s about it for now! I’ll check back with y’all- I’m getting my southern lingo ready– when I’m in South Carolina! If I thought it was hot in Albany, wait till I get down there…

Also, I just wanted to give a shout out to my good friend Kayla Germain who recently was married! Congratulations 😀 I’m so lucky to work so closely with you and have such a good person in my life! Saint Rose wouldn’t be the same without you!
