Once upon a time, an intern came to Juneau, Alaska to work at the Juneau-Douglas City Museum. The intern had such a great time that she decided to stay. Forever. Okay, maybe not forever. However, I did just tell a true story. The museum actually has a history of retaining its interns! Jodi, the current Curator of Collections & Exhibits was the intern at the museum before me! In fact, I am also still in Juneau! But don’t fret, I’m only here for the remainder of this week.

I will be spending my last week aiding our Curator of Public Programs, Marjie, facilitate Juneau Explorers—a day time summer program aimed at children ages 8 to 11 run by the city museum. Yesterday (Monday), we learned about the Tlingit culture from native guest speakers and exhibits at the city and state museum. We will continue to embark on adventures every day. By the end of the week, the Juneau Explorers will have learned about thousands of years of Juneau’s history through activities such as a geology walk at Mendenhall Glacier, a voyage through the former operating AJ Mines, and more!

I’m really excited about getting to spend my last week in Juneau this way!

Until next time!
