Bringing It Home – The Saint Rose Blog

Alumni Connection: Jacob Bergmeier, Class of 2002

Here I am! Back with the newest Alumni Connection! I know it was a while ago, and I’m not full of myself to the point where I expect you to remember, but I did a similar post almost 4 months ago. As I may have mentioned this is something we would like to continue to do and hopefully make it an active part of the blog, something along the lines of an annual Alumni Connection post. OK. Sorry, enough with my hopes, dreams, latest blogging aspirations. I am very excited to introduce to you Mr. Jacob Bergmeier!

When did you graduate from Saint Rose?

2002

What was your major?

Spanish 7-12

Where are you from?

South Glens Falls (Saratoga County)

Where do you currently reside?

Danbury, CT

Where are you currently employed?

I work at John F. Kennedy Catholic High School and I wear many hats in the building. My days are split teaching Spanish and coordinating the technology building-wide.

Additionally I own my own photography business. I have been lucky enough to capture weddings in some of the most incredible places, my favorite being the American Museum of Natural History. I have photographed two incredible weddings there and the second of the two was even featured in the January 2012 edition of Town & Country Magazine.

What is your title/responsibilities?

I am the IT Coordinator, Director of Social Media, and Webmaster. I ensure all of the technology is functioning, assist teachers in using the technology available to them, make recommendations to the Board of Directors and administrators as to what technology in the school needs to be updated. As the webmaster I maintain and update the schools website daily, make videos of exciting events that happen in the building, take pictures of fun class assignments and major projects, and utilize social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Additionally I do the majority of the graphic design for the school’s brochures and mailings.

What is your favorite memory/experience from college?

My favorite college experience was studying abroad in Seville, Spain. The 6 months I spent there changed my life more than any other before or after. I can honestly say that I am who I am today because of my time there.

What was your favorite class?

It’s hard for me to come up with a class that’s my absolute favorite, but the literature classes I took with Dr. Esther Murillo-Caballero and Dr. Claire Ziamandanis have had a lasting affect on me to this day. They challenged me to go beyond my abilities and helped me to gain insight into who I am and what I believe in.

What was your proudest in college moment?

The moment it “clicked”.

(I agree with Jacob on this one.)

What was your proudest out of college moment to date?

The birth of my daughter, Lillian.

What was your favorite off campus restaurant?

Elda’s on Lark Street

What was your favorite thing to do or see in Albany?

Being a runner, I was able to see the whole city of Albany on a personal level. It allowed me to see things that most people would miss while driving by, like the unique rot-iron banisters that welcome you into someone’s home from the sidewalk in the downtown area near Picotte Hall. It allowed me to see the gorgeous homes that lay between Madison Avenue and Washington Avenue.

Do you have any advice for current or future students?

Be careful of what you say on social media websites like Facebook and Twitter.  Dress up for class, not down.  Get involved with the activities and clubs that Saint Rose has to offer.  Leave your debit card at home when you go out on the weekends.  Write your mother a thank you letter.  Enjoy yourself.

Favorite movie, book, food, color? (I fully don’t ever expect anyone to answer all of these but Jacob got it done)

Favorite Movie: Casino Royal. Favorite Book: Far too many to list. Favorite Food: Thai curry chicken with onions, peppers and asparagus. Favorite Color: Yellow.

There you have it! The talented Jacob Bergmeier in a nut shell.
