Alumni- It’s time to Reach Out Saint Rose!

Saint Rose students helping gut a house damaged by Tropical Storm Irene

For 16 years, The College of Saint Rose has dedicated a day to reaching out to the community in mass numbers. In those 16 years, thousands of our students have raked, shoveled, swept, and so much more. Students have volunteered at the St. Anne Institute, Damien Center, Capital District Habitat for Humanity, Homeless Action Committee, and hundreds of other places. Last year, with the aftermath of Tropical Storm Irene, we sent students to aid in Schoharie County.

I’ve participated in Reach Out Saint Rose myself, and last year I was able to help document the day with my work as E-Media Coordinator. It is really hard to describe how one feels at the end of the day: tired, maybe a little sore, hungry (but the endless amount of pizza after takes care of that), but most of all proud. I always feel proud that I am part of a campus community that understands and values a need to give back to its surroundings.

Now, it’s time for Saint Rose alumni to step forward and show what they’ve got. Our Office of Alumni Relations is organizing a team to contribute to Reach Out Saint Rose on Saturday, September 8, from 8:30-1:30. We’d love to have a team of alumni pitching in. If you aren’t in the Albany area, the Office of Alumni Relations is encouraging you to somehow make September 8 a day of service. Call your local shelters, food pantries, and non-profit organizations…I’m sure you can find a way to make a difference!
