Bringing It Home – The Saint Rose Blog

And We Are Back

Oh hello Saint Rose Blog-
I returned to campus this Sunday and although its great to be back at Saint Rose it is also very strange because there are very few students milling about compared to the hundreds of people I normally see on any given day during the school year.

You may be asking why I am back on campus so early compared to everyone else and no, it is not because I play a sport, but because I am training to become a resident assistant. For the next couple of weeks I will be attending training sessions and getting to know my peers as well as learning how to properly function as an RA. Although I’ve only been in training for one day, I can already tell that it is going to be an amazing experience. This is because like the Saint Rose community as a whole, the people I am training with and learning from are supportive, fun, energetic, and love what they are doing.

My friends Megan, Jessie (who is training to be an RA with me), and Melissa

Aside from training with my amazing staff I have been taking the time to get reacquainted with New York and all that city life is known for. This includes but is not limited to the following list:

  1. Waking up at least 4 times a night to city noise (last night it was a fire truck, dump truck, street sweeper, and a car with really loud bass)
  2. Walking everywhere instead of driving my beloved car (exercise is always a plus though).
  3. Getting honked at by various people while you are walking everywhere instead of driving (last night it was my Area Coordinator and my friend Soozey).
  4. Less grass and a whole lot more of pavement (where are the cows?)

I have also obviously been taking advantage of the extra time I have outside of training to unpack the massive amounts of stuff I brought back to school, catch up with old friends, and get a head start on RA related projects like bulletin boards and door tags. With that being said I am looking forward to everyone else returning to campus including all the friends I made last year and my new residents.
