Bringing It Home – The Saint Rose Blog

Author: Chérie

I'm a Sophomore Communications major here at The College of Saint Rose and I'm really involved! You'll see me going here and there, so be sure to ask me where I'm headed! Chances are when I catch my breath and tell you, I'll be heading somewhere fun & interesting so feel free to tag along!

Professor Shout-Out! Meet Professor Paul Lamar

Paul Lamar: I’m an adjunct in English. My first teaching experience at Saint Rose was in 2000 (or thereabouts), after which I moved to Cobleskill to be with my partner, Mark, and three children. For over seven years I taught English at SUNY Cobleskill, helped raise kids and a granddaughter, then returned to Albany with Mark (kids were grown by…

A Colossal Amount of Awesome

I recently checked out the Alumni Show in the Massry Gallery… it was amazing [also properly known as “Design@Work: The Karene Faul Alumni Exhibition”(which FYI is closing the 29th so hurry!!!)]. There was so much to see and a lot of it was recognizable from companies around the world. It was quite wonderful to see Saint Rose alumni doing what they love with what they learned here as well as being successful at it and bringing it back for us to see.

We are pretty cool. I don’t want to spoil the show by gushing over all the cool stuff but the first thing that caught my eye was an advertisement for the first season of Glee and the show Fringe on Fox (both of which I am a fan). It honestly fills you up with pride to know that one of our Alumni did such great work.

Which brings me to my big ooh aah point. Don’t feel lost. If you find that you have no idea what you want to do after college its okay. One: Do what you love. Two: You had no idea what you wanted to do in college not that long ago. I promise it’ll come to you. Chances are that Saint Rose will have given you the tools you need to succeed and that you’ll be happy succeeding at what you love.

P.S. Speaking of Saint Rose giving you the tools you need, the link on the words Alumni show at the top of this post will take you to the colleges Facebook page (like it!) and an album full of pictures from the show.

Patience is a virtue I do not Possess…

Everybody knows the saying ‘patience is a virtue.’ I do not have that virtue in any way shape or form. I don’t like waiting in the lines in the dinning hall for my favorite meals (or any other meals either). I don’t like waiting for people to realize that the light is green. I don’t like to wait for people…

Overnights!!!

So if you didn’t do this before you came to Saint Rose or are debating it, overnight visits are awesome. My overnight made Saint Rose THE BEST OPTION, I loved it! Now things have come full circle and I’m an overnight host. I’ve had three guests so far and it has been super fun, because let’s face it, who doesn’t want…

You really haven’t changed…

When I decided to go to Saint Rose I wasn’t the only one from my high school that decided to come here. My friends Ian and Chrissie knew me before this big “college change” happened and just about every time that I find time to catch up with one of them they never neglect to tell me that I haven’t changed…
