Boy, Does Time Fly!

Hello everyone!

I hope you are all enjoying reading my posts that I enjoy so much writing.

I can’t believe it’s already the end of the second week!  The past couple of days have been so busy. On Tuesday, Legal Services Corporation hosted an all-staff ice cream social which allowed all the interns to talk with current employees from all different offices. I was able to sit down with Mark Freedman, Senior Assistant General Counsel with the Office of Legal Affairs and Ashley Matthews, Communications Manager/Writer with the Office of Government Relations and Public Affairs. Mark, alum of Cornell Law, and Ashley alum of Miami Law; gave me an in-depth personal perspective of law school, a journey I am looking forward to embark upon myself.

On Wednesday, I was invited to attend the managers meeting.  It was interesting to observe how offices of different fields and concentrations interact with one another, all under one big corporation. I am looking forward to sitting in on their meeting every week this summer; I know I can learn something from it. On Thursday, I spent my lunch time at the Intern Brownbag which gave me a chance to sit down with Carol Bergman, Director of Government Relations and Public Affairs as she explained the function of GRPA and how it works with other departments within LSC!

Amongst all these moments of acquisition of knowledge, I am still adding on to the projects I am currently working on. I can’t decide which is better; ice cream socials or being given responsibility with the expectation to do well. I have to say the best part of my day is in the office. But Washington, D.C. and Alexandria, VA have so much to offer a tourist like me that I am determined to make the best of this opportunity personally and socially. Below is a photo of my view every day when I am waiting for my train, I can only imagine what beautiful things I will see when I actually go looking for them.

This past weekend I spent home resting because of an unknown stomach bug, but I didn’t waste all of the weekend. I did spend some time jotting down things I would like to do after hours. A few things were visiting the Smithsonian National Zoo, hearing a case at the Supreme Court of the United States, going to the National Archives Museum, and hiking the Mount Vernon Trail. I hope to have some awesome photos to share with you all in my next blog post.
