CoCarr’s Strose 2013

As most people do once it is time to put up their 2014 calenders I like to reflect on what has happened over the past year. For me this means reflecting on the first half of my third year at Saint Rose and all the different things that I have done and accomplished. Instead of going into a lengthy year long reflection I would like to present my top 5 Strose Moments of 2013.

5. Sailing- Everyone that knows me knows that I am nothing short of a klutz and not the most skilled at organized sports so because of this when it was time to take my gym credits at Saint Rose I opted for some non-traditional courses. Instead of taking jogging or weight training I signed up for tennis and sailing. Both classes were actually really fun but my favorite was sailing and more specifically the group trip we took to Lake George to practice our skills. My group was hilarious throughout the semester but once it was time to test our skills the true hilarity came out to play. We managed to sail our boat successfully while snacking on cliched boat foods that included sliced cheese and crackers and our instructor even called me a natural.

4. Lima 4… Round 3- This might be cheating as this is not a specific moment  but I can not recap my Strose 2013 year without mentioning my residents of Lima 4. This is my third year living on Lima 4 (I’m crazy, I know), and this year my girls remind me of the group of girls that I lived with my freshmen year. There is never a moment when I know exactly what they are doing, especially when they are wearing green morph suits, and that is what makes it so interesting. I am so thankful for their lively personalities and how they have turned our hall into more of a home than I could have ever hoped for. I can say without a doubt that once we all move out of Lima it will be one of my saddest days at Strose but until then I will continue to enjoy their company and commend their dedication to Cookie Dough Mondays.

3. Career Day- This is the most recent of my top 5 moments and definitely one that I am proud of as I was selected to attend a college career day at a local Albany middle school to talk about my college experience. The day was so much fun and I enjoyed how candid the students were with their questions and how eager they were to imagine their futures. I felt extremely honored to be one of about six students invited to represent Saint Rose and to be given a chance to talk about what college means to me in a world where what you see on TV is often not reality.  At the beginning of the year I would have never thought that I would be going to a college career day to speak to middle school students but again it served as a reminder that you never know where you will be or what you will be doing at any point down the road.

2. Student Association- When I decided to run for Student Association last spring I never imagined that I would get the position never mind that it would become one of the biggest parts of my life. Becoming the Director of Communications  for the largest student group on campus has made me realize how much can be accomplished in college as long as you try and put yourself out there. I absolutely love my other SA Directors and all the hi-jinx we get into, that is when we are not acting in an official capacity. It is hard to believe that our time together is almost over but we have some big ideas for the spring semester and I know we will make our final months count.

Orientation

1. Orientation Leader- Some people may say that I am obsessed with the fact that I was a 2013 Orientation Leader and I honestly can not deny that. Being an orientation leader was one of the best experiences of my life and offered a distraction to the fact that my parents moved to Texas. I loved getting to know the incoming students and showing them a glimpse as to what their lives would become once the school year started and of course making friends with all the other OLs. Our group of orientation leaders were so free spirited and funny that there was never a dull moment in the house that we shared for a month or a smile left uncracked. I will always look back on that month with only the best memories and am happy to say that I am still friends with not only the orientation leaders but with some of the students that were in my group as well.

As 2013 ends I am thankful for all the friends I have made, the opportunities that I have been presented, and all of the memories that have been created.
