Did You Know? – Grad Edition: Counseling Center

Office:  The College of Saint Rose Counseling and Psychological Services

Where:  947 Madison Avenue/ Madison Hall

When:  Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Why:  Who hasn’t felt overwhelmed at times? Being a graduate student is a full time job, and on top of that many students work on a part-time or a full-time basis, have families, and/or relationships to think about.  This balancing act can be stressful and difficult to maintain at times.  But did you know that there is a place right here on campus where you can go to receive FREE and confidential services from three full-time NYS Licensed Professionals?

The Counseling Center: 947 Madison Ave

Remembering to take care of yourself can be a difficult feat sometimes, but it is an absolute necessity.  Whether that be by getting lots of sleep, making time for yourself, setting aside some time to do the activities you like, exercising, eating healthy, taking a few quiet moments each day to check in with yourself; whatever it is, just make sure you are taking care of your mental health… and if you find that you need a little extra support and help one day (who doesn’t?), do not hesitate to call the Counseling Center at (518) 454-5200, or just walk right in!

The other day I sat down with Alan Martell, the Assistant Director of the Counseling and Psychological Services office, and he wanted me to remind you guys of some helpful upcoming events to be on the lookout for:

  • Thursday March 20th, 12pm – 1pm: A Group training session, which focuses on effective stress management, and tools for building self-help, interpersonal, and mindfulness skills.  There are still openings available.  Call the Counseling Center, or stop by to sign up.
  • Monday April 14th– Friday April 18th: Sexuality Week, check in with the Counseling Center at a later date for more specifics.
  • Thursday May 1st, 11 am – 2 pm: Stress Free Zone, with finals week just around the corner stop by the stress free zone to blow off some steam by receiving some educational information on ways to handle stress, playing with therapy dogs, eating ice cream sundaes, and getting a fabulous massage in one of the massage chairs.

Who doesn’t love free things?!

One of the best resources The College of Saint Rose offers is the Counseling Center and the plethora of events they plan.  So, why not take advantage of the free, unique, and accommodating variety of services (e.g., individual counseling, couples counseling, support groups, workshops and trainings, medication referrals,  consultations with staff, faculty, and families, as well as 24-hour crisis intervention) that are available for students here at Saint Rose while you can?
