Dr. D. Wayne Johnson, Ed.D: A True Inspiration

  • Walking through the door of Lally 254, I didn’t know what to expect from EDU-300. But by the end of that semester, I sure didn’t want to leave that class! Dr. Johnson was one of the first education professors I had at St. Rose. He taught foundations of education, an introductory course on the history and current topics related to educators, which all School of Education undergraduates have to take.

  • Dr. Johnson was a professor who taught with pride, conviction, and a passion for the profession. His countless stories and methods of intriguing the class kept everyone on their feet and yearning to come to class each week. I think I speak for a lot of his students in saying that we left the class feeling better prepared to be teachers and feeling like we can make a difference. I’ve never met a man with so many experiences; from a district superintendent to college professor, to elementary school principal.
  • I was reminiscing with a former classmate last night about Dr. Johnson. We both concluded that it might seem cliché, but this is a clear example of “you don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone.” We were so lucky to have had such an amazing professor at St. Rose. He motivated many of us to continue with the profession and not let the bureaucratic tendencies of education get in the way of our passions and dreams. You will be sorely missed, Dr. Johnson. Thank you for sharing so much of yourself with us!
