From Buses to Uber: A Guide to Getting Around Albany

bike share bikes parked in Albany
Albany can be super walkable — especially around Saint Rose. There are coffeeshops, restaurants, and parks you can easily get to on foot. But what about when you want to go a little farther?

Unfortunately, we don’t have a subway here in the Capital Region. But we get around OK! Here are a few ways to go farther downtown, up to Saratoga, over to Troy, or out to Schenectady – and beyond!

Buses
Get this: Saint Rose students ride on CDTA for free almost anywhere! (Exceptions are the Northway Express and STAR Paratransit service.) Just show your student ID to the bus driver, and boom, you’re mobile.

Bike share
With CDPHP Cycle, rent a bicycle (for $5 an hour) and ride it all around the region — if you can get that far. You’ll find these bike stations throughout the Capital Region. Here’s a list of locations.

Uber/Lyft
We didn’t always have ridesharing here (isn’t that crazy?), but now we do, and we love it. There’s rarely a shortage of cars to call, so this is a super-convenient way to get from A to B.

Cabs
We have cabs in Albany, too! But not enough to hail, like in New York. You can call a cab to come get you pretty much anywhere if you’re not a rideshare person. Check out the list of best Albany cabs here.

Those are the best ways to get around town — until you find a friend on campus with a car.
