Bringing It Home – The Saint Rose Blog

Garage to Glory

Ooops… sorry I have not posted in a while, but I am back! I want to tell you all about my first hosting experience. I hosted a Saint Rose original show, Garage to Glory. For those of you who may not know, it is a show put on by the collaboration of the music industry and the communications department. The communication students provide the production while music industry students bring the talent. This year was the fourth annual Garage to Glory.

I was the “hostess with the mostess.” Okay no actually, I was not. I was super nervous!

Although I had prepared questions, as soon as I stepped on stage I instantly forgot. I am not sure if it was the bright lights or the crazy amount of eyes staring at me from the audience. However, as any good host would do, I winged it. Yes, winged and forgot to say my name haha. How embarrassing? Luckily, I managed to squeeze it in at the end of the show!

This episode of Garage to Glory was only a thirty minute production. With that said, it only left me with a few minutes to get myself together before hitting the stage again. I had my questions in my handy dandy phone. As the show proceeded I rehearsed to myself, in hopes of actually remembering.

It’s a little embarrassing to admit, but I coached myself….in my head of course. I kept saying “ Relax, relax, you can do this.” Before going on stage again, I remembered what my floor manager said to me during rehearsal . “ Don’t make yourself look stupid, just be yourself.” I would not say she used the best diction haha, but it definitely worked.

I had to realize the difference of being a host and being a reporter. G2G is a fun event, student run and students performing. I had to loosen up and simply be natural. My next appearance on stage, I was ten times more comfortable.

For my first time hosting, I did a pretty good job. I had the normal butterflies and some awkward moments, but there is always room for improvement. I really cannot wait to get another opportunity to host. Be on the lookout for my next hosting events.
