One interesting fact about yourself: I have also done gymnastics and dance in the past
What set SR apart from other schools: “The exploratory program here was a big reason. I didn’t know what I wanted to do. I also liked how small the campus was.”
Why SR Track and Field: “I wanted to go to a Division II school for track. I really liked the team and the coaching staff. This school gave me the best opportunity to develop as an athlete.”
Most memorable moment or game: “As a high school junior, I broke my own school pole vault record. It was a special moment in my life because my family was there for me.”
How you got involved: “I started competing in Track and Field when I was in the seventh grade. I did it because I had done club sports in the past and everyone in my family ran track. My dad suggested the pole-vault to me.”
Do you have a saying or motto you live by: N/A
Where you draw your inspiration from: “My sister (Megan Kelly) is my biggest inspiration because she kind of does it all. She has a busy schedule with school and now she’s working. She’s good at managing time.”
How do you prepare before a meet: “The night before a meet I’ll lay in bed and picture the form of how I’ll be jumping. I get myself mentally prepared.”
What are you looking to accomplish this year: “This semester I’d like to clear 11 feet and break my high school pole-vault record. I’m looking to improve and finish out my season strong.”

My Comments/ takeaway from the interview: Cara Kelly is a first year pole vaulter for The College of Saint Rose currently studying Psychology. She is very passionate about pole-vault and track and field in general. “Last semester was our preseason and a lot of first-year athletes were adjusting to the college level. Everyone on the team is stepping up and I feel good about our team this semester. Going forward we are progressing well and getting where we need to be in competitions,” Kelly said. “The encouragement among our teams during workouts is great. We all encourage one another to work harder in practices. The team is like a family to me. Everyone wants the best for each other and looks after the well-being of the team. I’d say our team is pretty close to one another,” Kelly said about her team. Cara also brings a fresh type of personality with her. She’s funny and loves to be with her teammates, but she knows when it’s time to get down to business. She brings a whole new dynamic to the team already breaking records here at Saint Rose. Cara is a tremendous athlete with a lot of potential being so young. Saint Rose has a valued new member to the community in more ways than one. I enjoyed meeting Cara and getting to know a little more about her. Very friendly and positive. I can’t wait to see what she does going forward in her collegiate career.
