Sport: Men’s Swimming and Diving (free style/sprint swimmer)
Hometown:
Ballston Spa, NY
Class Year:
2018
Major: Criminal Justice
Favorite study spot:
Library basement
Favorite food: Steak burrito from Chipotle
One interesting fact about yourself: I have three siblings and I’m the oldest

What set SR apart from other schools: “I liked that it wasn’t a huge school and the campus isn’t too big. You see a lot of familiar faces around campus often. The class sizes are small. It’s not a state university, the professors here actually care about you and it’s not a huge lecture hall.”

Why SR Men’s Swim and Diving:
“I really liked the way my coach (Keith Murray) recruited me. He came to my high school swim meets and watched me compete. The Saint Rose swim team already had a powerhouse team.”

Most memorable moment or game: “I missed the state qualifying time by less than a second my sophomore year. My junior year in high school I qualified for the state meet (The 50-yard free style) and went on to qualify for the state meet my senior year as well. I remember the first time I made it my junior year it was such a huge relief.”

How you got involved:
“I got involved with swimming when I was eight-years-old doing club swimming because my family pushed for me to do swimming. My uncle George swam and my three brothers play Lacrosse and Football.”

Do you have a saying or motto you live by: N/A

Where you draw your inspiration from: “I draw my inspirations from my Uncle George. He went to Yale University and swam there. He has a bunch of records at Yale and was a two-time Olympian swimmer.”

How do you prepare before a game: “I always make sure to eat pasta for lunch and dinner the day before a meet and listen to music to pump myself up before a meet.”

What are you looking to accomplish this year: “As a team we want to finish within the top two at the Northeast-10 Conference Championships.  Personally, I would like to drop a full second in my 50 and 100 freestyle events.”

My Comments/ takeaway from the interview: Chris Vesic is a second-year student at The College of Saint Rose. He is currently studying criminal justice. Chris gets his inspiration to swim from his uncle George, who was a two-time Olympic swimmer. “My first-year we already had a great team and I learned a lot of new stuff from the coaches and adjusted to new types of training. My second-year in, we have a lot more depth on the roster this year and my coach (Keith Murray) brought in some fast recruits. Going forward, I think our team will do well and see success and we will have more depth as we continue to grow” Vesic said. “In the pool, the upperclassmen are always pushing us in practice trying to make us better so we perform our best at meets. The seniors took on a lot of leadership with the weight training program because they want to help us be the best we can be. Out of the pool I’d say we’re honestly a family, a band of brothers and sisters. The upperclassmen are always encouraging us to get our work done early on in the week rather than later” Vesic said about his teammates influence on him. Chris is a well-established swimmer and puts his best effort forth when it’s time to compete in meets. As a fellow friend of Chris’s, I know he does the best he can when it comes to academics just as he does when it comes to swimming. He has a lot to live-up to, in terms of catching his Olympian swimming uncle, but at the rate he’s going, I think he can succeed in all the goals he sets out to accomplish. He’s very competetive when it comes to swimming and I think the sky’s the limit for the men’s swimming and diving team.
