Most memorable moment or game: “I think it’d have to be my first collegiate win vs. LeMoyne. That was incredible to me because they were highly ranked. It was the first time I felt I contributed to the team as a whole and did my part.”

What set SR apart from other schools:
“I loved the campus. I loved that it was a small school, so I’d get to know my teachers and they’d get to know me.”

Why SR Softball:
“I picked this program because they were rebuilding and that was something I wanted to be a part of. I came for my official recruit visit and I got to meet all the girls and practice with them.”

How you got involved:
“I was five when I first started playing softball. I signed up because my brother played baseball and to show my dad I could play. My dad also played baseball and he is the reason I still play softball. He was always the one who motivated me when I was down and was my biggest supporter. He always made sure I had the opportunities I needed to get to the next step.”

My Comments/ takeaway from the interview: Renee is a sophomore here at The College of Saint Rose. She is a very likeable and approachable young woman. “When I first got here (last year) we had gotten a new head coach (Abby). For all us it was a big change for us as a team because it was a clean slate for everyone. The progression from then to now (first and second year) has been great. Abby has taken the program so far. I think going forward we’re ready to take our game to the next level and a lot of teams are going to be shocked,” Vaiano had to say on the team’s progression. “I think your different teammates are going to have different reactions as the game progresses. I think no matter what each one of us can reach out to each other, no matter what each one of us individually is going through,” Vaiano said. Renee feels confident about her team thanks to the tremendous effort of her coach. Renee is only a second year student and will be a key factor in contributing and making this team successful. The girls on the team have a strong bond and that will go along way down the road. Renee has built good team chemistry with her teammates since coming here. Her father is the reason Renee has excelled in softball and all the hard work she’s put into this sport is paying off. Watch out for Renee because she’s coming full force whenever she’s on the mound!
