Good to know: Saint Rose photo lab goes digital

center for art and design_albany_poster Students, faculty and College leaders recently celebrated the grand reopening of the photography studio at the Picotte Center for Art and Design. Half of the film processing facilities were replaced with digital color classrooms and the newest computer, scanning and printing technologies. A fabrication lab was added and outfitted with three-dimensional scanning and printing equipment, as well as a laser cutter that uses vector based software for etching student projects. These tools of the trade will continue to prepare Saint Rose art students for careers as designers, artists and art professionals.

A snapshot of the new facilities and some results:

With a laser-like focus Professor Susan Meyer, an assistant professor at the Picotte Center for Art and Design, shows what the new laser cutter can do.

Art Department chair Paul Mauren, a sculptor, pokes fun at himself for 30 years of loyalty to 35 mm slides and analog technology, and vows to transition to the digital world. He credited the collaboration between the art department and the College’s facilities and information technology offices with making the new photo labs possible.
