Hitting the Road–Saint Rose Style

Ever wonder how prospective students from places like Connecticut, Syracuse, and Long Island fall in love with Saint Rose? I know the answer!

For the past two years, I’ve joined Undergraduate Admissions on their Spring Recruitment trip. A group of current students are invited to share their unique Saint Rose experience with the families at the Accepted Student Events. I was honored to be invited again especially because we had a group of dynamic students going this year. The group included Kajanna McKenzie, Myles Thomas, Jermaine Brookshire, Meagan McKinney, Travis Sprague, and Ali Brayton. What an impressive group!

Undergraduate Admissions also brings faculty members to share their perspective on what makes Saint Rose the place to be. This year, Professors Dandan Wu, Ian MacDonald, and Risa Faussette joined us as we hit the road!

The 2012 recruitment team

As a group, we traveled to Connecticut, Long Island, New York City, Poughkeepsie, and Syracuse. At the beginning of each event, we started with a video as an introduction to the College of Saint Rose. One of my favorite parts of the event was watching the video; it made me proud of my school and excited to represent it. It was also great because students that did not have the opportunity to have a tour got the chance to see parts of our campus by watching the video. I think it’s a spectacular video that highlights the beauty of our community. Take a look:

After the video, the faculty had the opportunity to address the families. Then, Mary Grondahl, Vice President of Enrollment Management, gave an insightful speech about the development of the College’s facilities including the construction of  the Huether School of Business and Centennial Hall. After that, we (the student representatives) gave short speeches about what brought us to Saint Rose, the opportunities made available to us, and what we’ve accomplished with the support of our Saint Rose family. Our speeches ended the formal part of each event. The families were invited to stay for refreshments and ask us any questions they had about the school.

We had the opportunity to give our personal experiences with academics, campus life, and student leadership. The most rewarding part of the trip was being able to positively impact prospective students’ lives. I cannot explain the feeling I got when a student came up to me excited about their decision to come to Saint Rose. It was beautiful!

Although we worked hard, we also had tons of fun on this trip! We spent quality time with faculty members that we see on campus. We laughed and joked with professors in different fields than us and created bonds that will last a lifetime. I loved Saint Rose before, but after getting a look behind the curtain, I am certain that I chose the right place to spend my undergraduate career.

How do you know when you really love something?

When you’re willing to recommend it to someone else!
