I’m Katrina Tocci! I’m new to the Saint Rose blog this year. I am a freshman studying communications with a concentration in film and media. I have always been really interested in film and for the longest time I wanted to be a director. As I got older I found out that directing was something that I still wanted to do but I wanted to focus more on writing…even though I have horrible spelling and grammar skills. I have always loved writing more than anything else I have ever been interested in.

I looked into bringing my two loves of film and writing together and I realized that I want to be the next Ryan Murphy. I want to create some incredible TV shows for people. I want to show them the things I love via TV.

Personally, I love to have fun and be crazy with my friends. I also happen to love music and singing like a tone deaf hippo. I love shopping and fashion as well, but I really hate spending money so I shop at thrift stores on many occasions.

I grew up in Highland, New York which is right in the middle of Poughkeepise and New Paltz.I lived there since I was about five and I graduated high school in the same district I entered kindergarten in. My graduating class was pretty small, we had about 120 kids.

I currently live in Troy when I’m not at my residence hall. My mom and dad split up earlier this year and my mom wanted a new start, so she decided to move closer to me because I’m the baby of my family. I am also the first person in my family to be going to college so I am a bit proud of myself. I have an older brother as well.

I chose Saint Rose because it is the only college in the country that bears the Hearst name on its communications building. No other school in the country can say that. It’s a huge honor to be able to study there. Another reason I chose Saint Rose was because you don’t feel like you’re going to just some ordinary school. You feel like you are going to a place where your voice matters, where you are part of a huge family and where everyone kind of looks out for each other. I don’t think I will ever regret making the decision I did because it was the best one for my future and just for myself.
