Icebreaker and Noisemaker – Model UN CSRMUN 2k15

Hey guys! I am Rohit Ahuja, a math geek, pug freak and anything else that rhymes. I am a business finance major and full time Netflix addict. Yet again, it’s that time of the year when we check the weather app every night and pray for a snow day the next day. Waking up in the morning is a task and getting dressed is another. Being an international student from the warm desert islands of Bahrain (cue Aladdin theme song), the snow season is definitely something that I love (barring those three times I slipped on the snow because yes, I’m adventurous like that).

Anyway, being a foot deep into the snow and the spring semester, tons of exciting things are happening around campus. Some pretty awesome movies (The Hunger Games <3) are playing at Saint Joe’s Hall, tons of clubs are coming together to collaborate, and some pretty amazing events are being hosted by Late Knight Saint Rose. As the Program Director for the International Student Organization, I am obviously going to shoot some crazy information to you, so kids, gather around and pull out your notepads!

I told her about all the events we have planned for this semester at the International Student Organization and she just cant keep it together! She's really excited!

The International Student Organization is hosting The College of Saint Rose’s second annual Model United Nations Conference. It is a great opportunity to meet new people, learn about the world, engage in decision-making, and actually put yourself out there. A Model UN conference is basically a simulation of the actual UN where the students dress up professionally and represent countries in different councils. They research issues specific to their council and try to come up with solutions to the problem at hand. This year, we are putting a twist on things – there will be three councils (WHAT???) and lots of food. We will have the conference divided into the General Assembly which will deal with general problems of the world, the Human Rights Commission which will discuss issues related to human health, and finally the Security Council which will tend to all issues on international safety and security. Tickets are priced at $5 for Saint Rose Students and $7 for all other attendees, including Faculty and Staff (don’t forget to bring your Saint Rose ID to the registration). What can you expect? An amazing breakfast followed by some thought-provoking debate and capped by a sumptuous lunch and a résumé-worthy experience.

So pick out your suits, press your dresses, put your ties on and get prepared for a day full of excitement, professionalism, and leadership. The event is being held in conjunction with the National Foreign Languages Week. Training sessions will be held for those who are not familiar with Model UN Conferences. The last day to register is Tuesday, February 17th, and the Conference will be held on Tuesday, March 10th. For more information, contact the ISO at iso@strose.edu.

For more event updates follow the International Students page on Facebook.

I guess that’s it for now. More fun-filled activities and information will be coming your way so stay warm and stay tuned.

Until next time guys!

Rohit out.
