We sat down with a few of our international students, who joined us from a variety of countries around the world. They shared their thoughts on Albany and the area, what they like about being here and what they miss about home, and their best advice to their peers for settling into their new home at Saint Rose.
Isa Vara de Rey ’19
From: Spain, Canary Islands
Major: Childhood education with a concentration in Spanish
Fun fact: Isa is a guard on the Saint Rose women’s basketball team
Favorite thing about Saint Rose: School community
Advice to new international students: Be ready to jump into a new culture. Don’t be afraid. It will be the best time of your life.
Hardest thing to get used to here: Food
Miss most about your home country: Besides my family and friends, I miss our good, fresh seafood.
One way in which college is different here: There is always some school programs going on, which helps to bring the students together. It gives you the chance to meet new people.
Say something about yourself, in your home country’s language: Todos los días es un buen día, ¡aprovéchalo a tope!
Translation: Every day is a good day; make the most out of it!
