Monday’s Muse

Monday, Monday…I’m torn between belting out this phrase in true The Mamas & The Papas fashion or shaking my head saying “Monday, Monday” like what have you done, as if to scold a child. One thing is for sure, I promise you that I am not fully awake at this very moment.

For everyone out there reading this, I am going to try to make this a weekly thing. My posts will vary mostly because my mind tends to go from one thing to the next without me even knowing it. By the end of this post I will probably be telling you what I ate for breakfast this morning instead of what’s been going on in the wild and crazy world of undergraduate admissions.

Nonetheless Monday is here and it is the start to another work week in the undergraduate admissions office at The College of Saint Rose.

It’s August! When did that happen?

Last Friday was our first summer open house, we love welcoming new students and their families to our campus. Everyone seemed to be really happy and to enjoy the day.

This is an interesting time for us. We’ve had most of our focus on the class of 2016 for so long, and now just like that, their first semester begins soon. We now have to change gears and begin focusing on the class of 2017 and even 2018. *SIGH* I can’t believe I said 2017/2018, so weird. It’s an exciting transition that we all gladly accept. Not that we don’t love our 2016 students (don’t worry class of 2016 we will be here for you still, I promise) but it’s amazing to meet all of these new students and families. This is one of my favorite parts of this job, I love being able to work with students and their families on a daily basis in hopes of helping them to make the transition from high school to college as easy, smooth and enjoyable as possible.

I digress…I’m rambling.

So that was Friday.

This week myself and fellow counselors will spend a lot of time working on our travel schedule for the fall. I can’t believe how fast the summer has flown by. We will be out on the road (look for us) visiting high schools and attending college fairs come September. Planning our travel schedules is a very tedious, sometimes frustrating thing, but it’s all worth it in the end. This was my desk this morning.

Excel has now become my worst nightmare new best friend. Maps of Connecticut, Vermont and Rhode Island are spewed across my desk, lists of high schools and college fair invites join them. Lets just say my desk won’t see the light of day until my schedule is finalized. I will be a very, very happy person then.

On that note, it’s back to this travel schedule.

Oh…by the way… I had an english muffin with peanut butter and raspberry iced tea for breakfast.

Mondays make me wish I drank coffee.

If you made it to the end of this post I applaud you. I am taking submissions for a catchy title for these weekly posts that somehow intertwines admissions or The College of Saint Rose. Winner get’s a prize and a shout out in my next post. Start thinking.

(Title submissions can be left as comments, or tweeted to me at @abbystroseadmit, if you haven’t already followed me on twitter do it…now)
