Orientation Leader 2k13

It is a strange feeling to be back on campus in the middle of the summer with only a handful of people but a feeling that I welcome because this is where I feel at home. I, along with 13 others, am back on campus to welcome the class of 2017 as an orientation leader.

Our group at the high ropes course.

Being an orientation leader is something that has always appealed to me because I want to show people everything that college can be and more. I want to be that person that acts as a college Sherpa of sorts that guides incoming freshmen in the right direction while also offering the inside tips and secrets. The fact that this is something that I have always wanted to do is fine and good but what is making this experience even better is the group of people that I am working with. Our group is filled with different types of people, although we only have one boy (Oh hey, Ryan), and because of this our interactions are nothing shy of entertaining. Over the past week our group has been training on everything that could possibly happen over the two day orientation sessions- we even have a little something-something that involves a bear. Our training also included a trip to a high ropes course  in which we realized who was afraid of heights and those that could literally leap dozens of feet above the ground and not break a sweat. More highlights of the week included playing laser tag, eating a ridiculous amount at buffets, cliff diving, and playing the most intense games of Taboo you could ever imagine.

As our first orientation session begins this Tuesday the house that we all share is a buzz with excitement but also the nerves of forgetting one of the million ice breakers we now know (that may be a slight exaggeration but we definitely know at least 15). If you are a member of the class of 2017 get ready, we are one group of people that know how to make situations fun and most definitely a group of our people that  can make a fool of themselves to make you feel comfortable.
