Picking a major can be a difficult thing to do. At around age 18, it is difficult to choose one thing to do for the rest of our lives. A lot of students worry that they will get into the field and realize they hate what they chose.
Not to worry, though! At Saint Rose, we have an exploratory program. During this time, freshman students take a variety of classes such as the required English 105 and Ethics and values courses, along with a few classes that range from business to math to science. All of the courses taken are required for every student on campus. We are a liberal arts college, which means that we must take at least one class in each category including Literature, Foreign Language, History, Math, Information Technology and The liberal arts program allows room for undecided students to figure out what they really want without having to make up for lost time.
Bannerweb, our secure site, has a “what if analysis” button. This allows current students to see how the classes they have already taken and are currently enrolled in will fit into working towards a different degree. Here are the steps to get there:
Go to bannerweb.strose.edu
Click “Login to Secure Area” to enter your full student ID number and pin number.
click on the “student” tab at the top of the page
Click on “student records”
Click on “Academic Progress Report”
Scroll down to the end of the page to find the “What-if Analysis” button.
Choose your catalog. Anyone who is a Junior or Senior should select the 2009 catalog. Everyone else should choose 2011.
Now, you can choose a new possible major and/or concentration. The site will show you how all of your classes will fall if you choose to change. In order to change your major, you must go to registrar and talk to your adviser to fill out the necessary paper work. For any other questions, you can contact the student solution center!
