It’s springtime again, and we all know what that means- nice weather, Frisbee on the quad, ice cream, oh and Relay for Life! This year, on April 25th, the student club Colleges Against Cancer (CAC) will be hosting their annual Relay for Life to spread awareness and raise funds to find a cure for cancer.
This year, the Brubacher RAs decided to start a Relay for Life team, led by team Captain, and RA, Christopher Alvarado. This team is open to everyone in Zone 2, so residents are encouraged to join. Alvarado explained that the reason why the RAs decided to start up a team was because “many of the RAs in Bru like to stand for something.” All of the RAs in Bru hope to rally up as many of their residents as they can to create a united team in order to raise money for the fight against cancer.

Alvarado, as the fearless team leader, stated, “Each one of us has our different reasons for joining a team, but for me, I relay for the people that can’t or have given up hope. Every cancer patient is a fighter and they have traveled a long and bumpy road. I relay so they can take a break. I relay in hopes that one day cancer is beatable. I relay for every person who is, or was, touched by cancer.”
As of right now, the Bru Relay for Life team consists of all the Bru RAs and 5 residents. However, the RAs have ambitious plans to campaign for team members this month. “Nevertheless, our residents have been our biggest fundraisers, so we support them and thank them for their hard work,” Alvarado stated. “If we can raise about $1000 that would be really nice!”
