Throwback to Saint Rose in the Summer!

Name and Location: Holly Ferraro – Brubacher Hall

Class Year: Junior

Major: Childhood and Special Education with a concentration in Social Studies

Hometown: Washingtonville, NY

Reason for becoming an RA: My first RA was the absolute sweetest person, she would always leave personal notes on our doors, and when she knew you were having a particularly rough day she would make sure to stop by and leave you something to brighten your day. That feeling of knowing that someone really cared about me here was something that I could never thank her enough for, and that is the feeling that I wanted to be able to give to others. My RA’s Freshman and Sophomore year were why I wanted to be an RA.

Favorite thing about the job: My favorite part about this job is being able to make a real difference in people’s lives. I absolutely love getting to know my residents on a deeper level and being able to be the person they know they can come to with anything. I love writing notes for my residents and posting cute and funny things on our Facebook group, just to brighten their day.

Most memorable RA moment: My most memorable moment as an RA was Reach Out Saint Rose with my floor. It was the beginning of the year so I hadn’t gotten the chance to really know my residents yet, but that day was absolutely wonderful. We worked together in the crazy heat (I know, hard to imagine that now) to clean up Madison Avenue, and during those few hours we were truly able to bond. That is something I really cherish and will never forget.

What people should know about RAs: Being an RA is not an easy job, but it is extremely rewarding. Before coming into this position I could not have imagined what it was truly going to be like, but I don’t regret a single day. Being an RA has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.

I feel like I’ve finally found my place where I belong. Res Life truly is a family.

Favorite class at Saint Rose: My favorite class at Saint Rose so far has to be my African American Transatlantic History Class. I’m a total history buff and so I love basically any history class, but the reason I love this one so much is that it is a topic that gets glazed over in grade school, so getting to learn about the actual slave trade and how it really came about is absolutely fascinating.

Goals after graduation: After graduation I hope to either get a job in teaching or possibly continue on in higher education in The Office of Residence Life. My main goal is to continue to help people, wherever that may lead me.

Favorite Albany hangout: My favorite Albany hangout would have to be Washington Park. It is an absolutely beautiful place to take a walk, have a picnic, do homework, or just hangout and take in the beauty of nature.

Favorite late night snack: I will eat anything at any time (except for meat because I’m a vegetarian). I absolutely love food so it’s hard for me to choose just one snack. I think if I had to choose it would be Carvel ice cream cake because those are incredibly delicious.

Random fun fact: I re-read the entire Harry Potter series every summer because it’s just that good.
