Some students think that they know what they want to do for the rest of their lives until they actually sit through a semesters worth of classes and realize this is not for me! What should you do next?
- Think: What classes do I enjoy? What comes natural to me? Since we’re a liberal arts school, students are required to take a course in a few different disciplines including social studies, science, business, physical education, etc. If there is a class that you enjoy and comes easy to you, you may want to consider on making that your major!
- Talk to someone in your prospective major. Someone who is actually going through the program will know it best. They can tell you about the classes, professors, and kinds of assignments that are given.
- Talk to a professor in your prospective major. The people who teach the courses know the most about the program and what you’ll need to do to graduate. They can answer many of the questions that you may have about the program.
- Look at Bannerweb! Bannerweb.strose.edu is our “secure” site. It is where you can look at your progress report. This has all of the classes that you have to take for your current major and it shows where all of the courses you are currently taking/ already have taken fit in to your degree requirements. If you scroll down to the bottom, you’ll find a handy dandy “what if- analysis” button!
- The What-if Analysis allows you to change your major on the progress report so that you can see what classes your new major will require. It also will show where all of the classes you have already taken will fit into your new program. This way, you’ll know if you’ll need to play the catch-up game or if you’re still right on track for graduation.
- Talk to your adviser! He/she can help you make this decision! This person will also know if you should stick with him/her in your new major or if you should switch to someone within your new major.
- CHANGE YOUR MAJOR! Go visit Registrar, located on the 4th floor of Saint Joseph’s hall to fill out the necessary forms. It is a single piece of paper and takes about 30 seconds to fill out!
Academic Advising offers info on “How do I change my major?” with the form you will need!
Did you change majors? How was your experience?
