Super Strose Market Sweep 2012

Social Justice week is off to a great start with the first ever “Super Strose Market Sweep!” Students piled on shuttles to go to the Central Avenue Price Chopper where we competed in 3 rounds.

Super Market Trivia: Every team had a chance to show their knowledge of super market trivia. Every time a team got the right answer, 10 seconds were added to their time for round 2. Each trivia round had a “Whammy” question, which was worth 20 seconds and could either be added onto the winning team’s time or given as a penalty to another team. The top 5 teams moved onto the next round.

“Shop till you drop” Round 1: The top 5 teams were given a shopping list with the goal of getting as many correct items as possible. The 3 teams with the most items moved on to the next round

“Shop till you drop” Round 2: Like round 2, teams had the task of finding items on a set shopping list. However, this time we had a budget of $109.20 and would be disqualified if we went over.

In the end, I am proud to say that my team came in second place. All of the items pulled from the shelves were purchased by the Office of Student Life so that it can all be donated to local shelters. St Rose seniors Nicole Dama and Sherrie Walensky did a great job planning the event which was run through the Late Knight program. It was a huge success and a great way to kick of Social Justice week.
