An Alma Mater is a college or university from which a student graduated. The phrase comes from the Latin words meaning “nourishing mother.” However, Alma Mater can also mean the school anthem or song. Over the years Saint Rose has had several songs associated with the college; songs like Mystical Rose, The Gold and White and Memories of Saint Rose. These songs, written in the 1920’s through the 1940’s, describe Saint Rose and the love students had for their alma mater. Some of the songs feature trivia like the Saint Rose colors while other songs like Mysitical Rose are more poetic. The lyrics to the Saint Rose Alma Mater written by Winifred McGowan Quinn, a graduate of the first class, are below:

The lyric in the first line “of glory, of praise” became the book title of the history of Saint Rose published in 1994 for the 75th anniversary of the College. The entire book Of Glory, Of Praise can be found in the digital book collection on the archives website.
