The Good, the Bad and the Exciting!

Hey again!  So DC is still hot, but I’ve been feeling better.  Thanks to everyone who asked how I was doing after reading my last post!

This past year, my friends and I had the opportunity to take a Western films class as part of the school’s liberal education curriculum.  I loved the class; it was fun to have a subject completely unrelated to my business major.  I’ve structured today’s post around one of my favorite Western films, the third in the famous “Dollars Trilogy”, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.

The Good: Work is great!  I’ve been working on projects and sitting in on meetings.  Yesterday, I went to a work/life initiatives program hosted by the Office of Human Resources entitled, “Principles for Investment Success.”  I took Managerial Finance at the grad level this past semester so I figured it would be an interesting presentation to hear.  After work, I’ve been spending time seeing the city with Megan and CJ.  Last night, we went to the movies in Chinatown (I took the pic. below hoping you’d be able to see the Chinese writing).  I’m excited to go back to Chinatown when I’ll have more time to explore.

The Bad: Living in a college dorm without a meal plan is not my favorite.  I know students often complain about dining hall food, no matter which school they’re at, but I love not having to worry about grocery shopping, making dinner, washing dishes, etc. while I’m worrying about classes.  Also, anyone who knows me knows that I have a huge appetite.  I’ve always been able to eat everything on my plate plus more!  Needless to say, I’ve been spoiled by St. Rose; I’ve always had a meal plan because I’ve lived on campus since freshman year.  This summer is really different.  No longer can I just run to the d-hall to grab something whenever I’m hungry.  Also, since I’m not a Resident Assistant at GWU like I am at St. Rose, the cost of food is not covered by my RA compensation.  Quick plug for Res Life: Being an RA is great!  It’s a lot of work, but totally worth it in the end.  Students reading this should apply to be RA’s next year 🙂

The Exciting: My family is coming to visit next weekend! My Mom, aunt, and three of my younger cousins will be down for a few days.  I am really close with my family and it’s tough to always be the one who is far away.  Thankfully, technology makes staying in touch much easier!  Anyway, after speaking with Jim yesterday, I have been given permission to work an extra hour each day until they arrive and then I can have the Friday off when they’re here!
