I am certainly not the first person to write about Hudson River Coffee House, and surely won’t be the last.  I am in love with this place.  I first came to HRCH last year when my friends were performing at an Open Mic event being held here.  Long story short, I had to come back the next day.  It’s a great place to go to get a few hours of work done.

There are a few aspects of this establishment that have really drawn me in.

First is the physical size of the coffee house.  With many cafes in the area being too small to find a space to sit and sip, HRCH spans the bottom floor (1,700 sq. ft.) of the Hudson River Telephone Company building.  There are tables fit for small or larger groups, and sofas and armchairs that create the relaxed atmosphere I look for in a cafe (the classic jazz often playing in the background doesn’t hurt).  Since I have been visiting, I haven’t had an issue grabbing a seat.

The coffee is also, in a word, delicious.  Dare I say my favorite around, tied first with my Keurig machine brew at home.  It’s a medium blend that doesn’t make my jaw clench up when I drink it (not a fan of bold roasts), although they do have many options for coffee lovers whose palates crave stronger, deeper flavors.

Their menu also includes breakfast sandwiches, hoagies and paninis (at generous sizes), various cold beverages, espessos, and stellar baked goods.

If you’re into live music from local artists, you may want to consider stopping by for Starving Artist Thursdays, every Thursday from 8-11 p.m.  As stated on their website, “from spoken word, punk, rock, and more…”, you’re sure to find a good variety.

What’s more, they are open from 8:00 a.m. to Midnight every day of the week… AND offer free wi-fi.  What more could a student want? (Here’s one idea: Jenga).  I really appreciate their wide range of hours with my jam-packed schedule when I need to occasionally squeeze homework into awkward hours of the day.

You may also find them on Facebook and Twitter for more information and updates.
