The Senior Voice Recital of Genevieve Diller!

It is one thing to attend a Senior Recital; it is another thing to put on one yourself. On April 6th, 2014 at 5PM, I was privileged enough to present a Senior Voice Recital in the Massry Center of the Arts at The College of Saint Rose. The amount of hard work, dedication, sweat, and tears that went into this recital cannot be written down into a single blog post. However, I can give 4 pro-tips that will help any music major at Saint Rose could use when preparing for their Senior Recitals!

1. DO NOT PANIC – Yes, there is a lot of stress that goes into these recitals. However, I can guarantee you that you will have MUCH more stressful situations and experiences in your life (finding a job, per say). Just breathe; it’ll all work out in the end.
2. STAY ORGANIZED – You are going to have to handle a lot  of paperwork – your program, the senior recital packet that you receive, the paper that states if you passed or failed, etc. Keep it together in one place and try to stay on top of your paperwork!
3. BE PROACTIVE – If you know when your recital is going to be (as in the semester, not the actual date), do yourself a favor and, at the beginning of that semester, WRITE YOUR PROGRAM NOTES. Trust me, when it’s three weeks before your recital and you have a lot  more to plan for (like your reception), and you have the satisfaction of having your program notes done, you’ll thank me.
4. HAVE FUN! – This is going to be one of the most exciting times of your life – make sure to cherish it! I hired Chris Lovell to take pictures for me to capture the moment, and let me tell you, it was worth it! Video tape it, take pictures, and soak in every moment. It’s your time to shine! Embrace it!
