These Streets were Made for Walkin’

Hello There!

I hope everyone is having a great week so far. I certainly am! I’m still enjoying my time in Juneau, especially with the weather being more than cooperative recently. The lack of rain has allowed me to wander more of the streets during my lunch breaks. What I really enjoy about working in the downtown area of Juneau is that there are so many historic attractions located only a short walk away (as you can see in the image below).

During the second week of my internship, I was lucky enough to go on a guided Historic Downtown Walking Tour led by one of the museum’s very charismatic volunteers (Hi Joel!—and yes, this is a shameless plug for the museum’s Historic Downtown Walking Tours that are led every Tuesday-Thursday afternoon). It was pretty nifty to discover that the building I work in was the official site of the statehood ceremony and initial raising of the 49-star flag on July 4, 1959. However, it was impressive to learn how much more history surrounds me every day, and is also easily accessible to the public.

That’s all from me for now!
