Time flies when you’re….an Admissions Counselor

So it’s been a year.

52 weeks.

365 days.

8,760 hours.

A whole year.

I’m going to keep this short and sweet because I could go on for pages and pages about all the people I have met, and things I have experienced and accomplished in this very quick year.

March 14th 2011 I sheepishly walked into 1001 Madison Avenue wondering what I was getting myself into and what was coming my way.

That was my first day of work, at my first “real job”. I didn’t know what “Assistant Director of Undergraduate Admissions” truly meant but I was ready to find out and to fulfill that title. I met a lot of people that day, absorbed a lot of general information and began to become acquainted with what would become my office.

I am EXTREMELY lucky to work side by side with such an awesome team everyday.

Seriously, I am.

Each one of us brings such a different aspect to the office and our individual work and because of this every day is different and there is never a dull moment. Whether we’re hard at work or out and about to celebrate another great week not a moment goes by where someone isn’t laughing. Now that’s my kind of job.

I am also so lucky to have been able to work with so many students and families each and every day.

There’s something so special about meeting a student when they’ve just begun their college search and then months and months later being able to personally call that same student and tell them that they’ve just been accepted into our accelerated communication sciences and disorders program. Hearing them scream on the phone and cry of happiness to their mom when I tell them that they’re one of only 6 students accepted into that program this year.

You cannot beat that feeling.

It makes waking up early, to be at work before 8:30 AM, worth it. (Ok so I’m not a morning person…at all.)

There have been many highs and lows throughout this year, and many things that I didn’t know, that I now do. So much more goes into this job than the outside eye could anticipate. The entire college works together towards the common goal of following through with our mission. Without the hard work of the ENTIRE campus community my job wouldn’t be possible and Saint Rose wouldn’t be the great place that it is today.

A place that I haven’t been able to yet leave since I walked into my freshman dorm room 6 years ago.

Nonetheless time flies when you’re having fun!

What a year.
