We’re Halfway There!

Well friends, we’ve made it halfway through the semester. With Advisement Day just around the corner, I thought this would be a good time to remind everyone (and myself) to take a few deep breaths, start buckling down on some homework, and remember that we are only 3 weeks away from Thanksgiving break!

It’s no secret that midterm time brings a lot of anxiety for us college students. With every professor you have scheduling a test within a week long period, projects to work on, and papers to write the list just keeps getting longer. It’s okay though to take a step back, scream a little, and then get back to writing that paper. You would think that with half a semester under our belts, we would be able to conquer anything in our path, but sometimes the mid-semester stress gets to be too much to handle.

So what’s there to do to beat these midterm blues and recharge for what the rest of the semester has to offer? Read closely, because you won’t want to find yourself buried under textbooks too stressed to continue!

  1. Get Organized! Make a to-do list (or three) of everything that you need to get done right now. Now take that list and break it up into smaller, more manageable lists, and just focus on getting 2 or 3 things accomplished each day. You’re going to feel a lot better checking everything off at the end of the day, and saving some things for tomorrow, rather than looking at 20 tasks you still need to complete.
  2. Make Outlines! Got a 10 page paper looming over your head and have no idea where to start? Write an outline! Going paragraph by paragraph will break your paper up and make it less daunting to write, and you will have it done in no time!
  3. Find ways to relax! Get into a routine of doing something to recharge yourself to avoid burnout. I really enjoy Guided Meditation in the Interfaith Sanctuary. It’s a half hour out of my week that forces me to forget about everything that needs to be done, and I always leave there feeling much more relaxed and ready to conquer the rest of the week. So find out what works for you, and add it to those to-do lists!

Remember, you’ve got this! Midterms are scary, but it’s nothing that you cannot handle. What’s your favorite way to beat the midterm blues? Leave a comment for me below!
