What to do over winter break? Go rock climbing…indoors!

If you feel yourself coming down with a bad case of cabin fever over the next few weeks, consider stopping by the newest indoor rock gym to open up in the capital region. The Edge Halfmoon climbing facility houses over 12,000 square feet of textured climbing terrain, an impressive free-standing boulder, and a substantial menu of top rope and lead routes for climbers of all ages and ability levels to enjoy. All this is available less than a half hour’s drive from The College of Saint Rose Campus. I was able to stop by and check The Edge out for myself a few weeks ago, and the trip was well worth it.

I’ve been a semi-frequent climber at the Albany Indoor Rock Gym since 2008, and am glad to see similar gyms like this one open up nearby. Climbing provides a great total-body work out, and will help you develop serious balance – particularly on those routes where the holds for your hands are the size of nickles and dimes! Aside from that, indoor climbing is a real blast, especially if you head out to the gym with your friends for the afternoon to challenge each other with new and more difficult routes.

So, for those of you struggling to fill your time with fun activities over winter break: it’s time to visit The Edge Halfmoon and dive into this great sport of rock climbing! There you have it – don’t ever say I’ve never done anything for you 🙂

Now for your homework assignment: After you stop by The Edge, leave a comment with your opinion of the facility…OR…if there’s another indoor rock gym that you absolutely love and can’t go more than a week without visiting, leave a comment telling me about it! I love visiting new gyms. That’s all for now. Keep climbing!
