Bringing It Home – The Saint Rose Blog

Meet the grad assistants-Career Center style! Part 2

Ever wonder who’s behind all the genius of The College of Saint Rose Career Center on the third floor of Saint Joe’s? Well, in this installment of my blog, we’ll be featuring a different staff member each time.

Meet Career Center Graduate Assistant, Amanda Shaw, who was an Environmental Studies undergraduate major (with two minors in Political Science and French and Francophone Studies!!!) at Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva, New York. She is now in the College Student Services Administration Graduate Program here, and when asked about what finalized her decision to attend Saint Rose, she replied, “I was already familiar with the College Student Service Administration program because my sister had gone through the program and enjoyed it immensely. I was looking to move to a new location that was closer to my family and Albany was the perfect place to look for a graduate school. After interviewing at Saint Rose, I knew that I could see myself being happy here!” From my point of view, Saint Rose really does attract families-not just one family member! I know so many people whose parents or siblings are alumni here as well.

Amanda would love to travel to Europe before getting a job at a small liberal arts college. She loves working with the students here and suggests that you get involved on campus in any way possible to have the best experience here! To anyone who wishes to work in an office at a small liberal arts college like Amanda, she has advice for you: “I would recommend talking to professionals in the field to see how their experiences have been and how they got to be where they are now.”

And here’s the answer to the question you all wanted to know: What’s Amanda’s favorite animal? Just like Jennifer’s, it’s a penguin!
