My day at the Capitol!

Hey Everybody!  Hard to believe it’s Thursday already!  Yesterday, the Director of Government Relations and Public Affairs at the Legal Services Corporation took the interns to the Capitol; it was great!  We started the day with a tour of the Capitol.  We then met with Senate HELP Committee Staff Dan Goldberg (staff for Senator Harkin (D-IA).  Senator Harkin is very supportive of LSC and it was interesting to hear about his work.

Yesterday afternoon, we observed the US House of Representatives from the House Gallery.  There was a debate going on about the defense appropriations bill which was exciting to hear.  We were at the House Gallery for an hour and then left to meet with the House Commerce, Justice, Science (CJS) Appropriations subcommittee, Colin Samples (staff for Chairman Frank Wolf (R-VA) and Darek Newby (staff for Ranking Member Fattah (D-PA).  We were surprised when we got there because the Chief of Staff for the House Appropriations Committee was at the meeting as well.

We decided not to go to the ball game last night because it was storming.  Instead, CJ and I went into Chinatown for dinner which was nice.  Today, I’m really excited because my friend Patrick is coming down to visit for a few days!  Pat and I met at The College of Saint Rose my sophomore year; we went through Resident Assistant training together.  Pat was actually in DC last summer so it will be great to sight-see with him!

Tonight, we’re going out to dinner with some of my friends down here so he can meet them.  Tomorrow, we’re going out to Mount Vernon and then we’ll meet up with his friends from last summer!  Saturday night, I have tickets to the Nationals/Braves game with some friends.  Then on Sunday, I’m going into Old Town Alexandria, VA.  Should be a busy weekend, but a lot of fun!  Check back on Tuesday for details and pics.

Have a great weekend everyone!
