Spring Break 2013

This spring break, I was relaxing on the beautiful sand of South Beach as I sipped ice tea out of my coconut shaped cup….SIKE!  I think that was my dream spring break vacation. I actually spent most of my time at home just relaxing with my family. The first few days of spring break I went to go visit my boyfriend at Syracuse University. We attended a Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity event competition called “Shimmy Like A Nupe.” The performances were ridiculously creative and amazing; I can honestly say I enjoyed my visit.

When I arrived in Brooklyn on Monday, I was ecstatic to be home. In my mind, home meant I could finally relax. As a college student, I am always on the go. I took this break as it is, a break from homework, planning programs, and decorating bulletin boards. I am proud to say that I was not completely lazy over the past week. While at home, I took some time to apply to internship programs for the upcoming summer. I applied to any place I could think of such as AARP, (American Association for Retired Persons) The Wendy Williams Show, the New York State Senate, and BET’s 106 and Park. My intentions are to obtain a position that will help nurture my communications and journalism skills.

Before leaving for break, I went to the Career Center to get my resume critiqued. The Career Center is a very resourceful place on campus. The staff assists you with internships, employment opportunities, and resume and cover letter critiques. The Career Center is open Monday through Thursday from 8:30 am until 6:00pm. On Friday, the center closes at 4:30 p.m.

A work in progress!

Overall, those seven days of relaxation were amazing. As all college students know, after midterms “it gets real.” I am just trying to grind hard and finish the semester off strong.

P.S. Hopefully I will be at South Beach next Spring break! :p
