Bringing It Home – The Saint Rose Blog

Strose on the Road- Conversion 2014

For the past five days I have been traveling around the Northeast with a group of faculty, staff, and students from The College of Saint Rose for the sole purpose of expressing what the college is to accepted students.

During a break my friends and I ran to Grand Central Station as it was only my 3rd time in the city!

Although this sounds like a simple task it is very hard to put into words just what Saint Rose is and what the past three years of my life have truly meant. This is because I can talk about the Saint Rose community and how at home I feel anywhere on campus, but that cannot fully be grasped until people experience it for themselves first-hand on campus. There is something that happens when someone visits campus and experiences people saying hi to them and holding doors that conveys that community atmosphere more than I ever could. I have also been finding it challenging to express just what I have done during my three years at the College as I feel like I have done so little but in actually I have done so much. This is because when talking to accepted students I find myself talking about a different aspect of my college career almost every time and feeling like I need to tell them more and more.

In all we have visited 5 cities in 5 days and I must say that typing that sentence made me feel like a rock-star. We started our tour in New Jersey then moved to Manhattan and from there  to Long Island. From Long Island we went to CT and then today we travel from CT to Poughkeepsie for our final stop. What was interesting to me was the stop we made in CT as the town, Simsbury, is 15 minutes from my childhood home and driving in we passed many places that held memories for me. Although it was just a glimpse into my childhood it was nice to get to point out the different landmarks to my friends that I remembered for significant reasons, especially since I moved so far away to Texas. Speaking to this, aside from telling people about the College and my experience with making it my own I have enjoyed this trip as it has allowed me to hang out in different cities with my friends as well as allowing me to make new connections.

I am very grateful for this experience as I really do love Saint Rose and will take any opportunity to tell people that. I am also grateful as this trip has allowed me to reflect on exactly what I have done so far in my college career and prioritize what I want to accomplish in my final year. I never imagined that my college career would play out so beautifully but I am so happy that it has and I know that I have to credit Saint Rose with offering me all of the opportunities to get involved and craft my future. With this being said I have to admit that I very scared about entering the “real world” as I cannot help but to think it will not be as wonderful as this.
