’tis the season for teas and honey

Everyone. Is. Getting. Sick.

Literally everyone.

Last week, someone in Lima had bronchitis. Even though she’d been on antibiotics for 24 hours, we all were been walking around with our scarves up to our mouths, trying not to breathe in her infected air.

Let’s face it, as much as we love someone, we absolutely positively do not want to share their germs.

But… if we do get sick, what do we do?

First of all, visit health services and see what is going on and if your illness is hospital-worthy. Usually we can tell ourselves, but a second opinion never hurts.

The next step is to drink lots and lots of tea. There are tons of different medicinal teas that you can buy, but really any kind of tea helps. Honey in tea instead of sugar is really good for your throat, and HONEYstly it kind of tastes better (in my humble opinion).

Bottoms up!

Bottoms up!

Foods with garlic in them really fight colds and infections. Garlic is literally a super food. So if Peter at the action station is making pasta and you can get garlic, ask for extra. Trust me.

Don’t go to class. I’m serious. If you really are that sick, you’re not going to learn anything at all. You will be miserable and blowing your nose and coughing and spreading your germs to everyone. The best thing you can do for yourself, and the good of the campus, is take a sick day. This is not to say that if your nose is a little runny you should skip class!!! I’m pretty sure everyone knows how sick is too sick. Not sick of your class or your teacher, but your immune system is literally raging a war inside of you to battle an illness.

Wash your hands. Hand sanitize them. Wipe down the surfaces in your dorm especially door knobs, and your keyboard and mouse wouldn’t hurt either. The other day, my friend Maria barged into my room and sprayed Lysol spray EVERYWHERE. That is dedication, my internet friends.

Don’t be afraid to call your mom if you really do get sick. She knows about this stuff and would definitely be glad to hear from you, even if you’re all stuffed up.

Stay healthy!

PS- My personal favorite tea to drink when I’m sick is Lemon Lift. It’s super refreshing, and honey and lemon go together like PB&J.
