Aside

Back like I never left! I have not blogged this whole semester, shame on me. Well time to give you  all an update on my life.  There are so many things that have changed since last semester. I decided to move off campus  with my two friends Emily and Simone. Yes, that means I am no longer a resident assistant. While I do miss being a RA, I thought I should try something different. I also started working at Best Buy as a wireless specialist.  I have been working there since the beginning of August. I first applied during  summer orientation. For the second year in a row I was selected to be an orientation leader.  It comes as no surprise but I loved my experience working with the incoming freshmen. It was refreshing to see new faces and interact with different people.  I am still very good friends with many of my orientees.

This year, I also decided to take a  leadership position in the student organization  ALANA which stands for African American, Latino, Asian, and Native American. ALANA is Leadership is a mentoring program for first year students.  The purpose of this program is to give freshmen a friend and a guide to assist them with academics, social life, and professional opportunities. When I was a freshman, I was a mentee in this program.  I felt honored to be a mentor for two first year students.  My mentees are absolutely amazing and I am happy I got the opportunity to get to know them.

I also took on the role as co- public relations director for the community service group, Knights of Service. This group originated last year by Natish Davis, who is the current president of the organization.  I am responsible for making flyers for our events as well as updating our social media sites.  We recently  hosted a mixer with the ALANA steppers. . As a community service group, we emphasize getting involved. The goal of our mixer was to allow students to get to know the different organizations on and off campus.   Various groups attended the mixer, including UAlbany’s  Phenomenal Voices and Malik Fraternity. The ALANA Steppers, Knights of Motion, and members of Groove Phi Groove  also performed at the event. It was really a good time and an accomplishment for Knights of Service. I am truly proud of my fellow members for putting on such a successful event.
