Neil Hellman

from the Saint Rose Archives photograph collection

Neil Hellman was this guy! A true Albanian, Hellman was born in 1908. Maybe you are thinking why does this name sound familiar? The name same as the Saint Rose Library, Neil Hellman donated $500,000 in 1981 to Saint Rose and expanded the library by 17,600 square feet. Now maybe you’re wondering how did Hellman make all this money? Hellman was an entrepreneur with multiple businesses spanning across sixty years. Hellman donated money to Albany Medical Center and Parson’s Child and Family Center and in 1984 Mayor Thomas Whalen III of Albany declared October 16th Neil Hellman Day!
