Bringing It Home – The Saint Rose Blog

The Home-College Dilemma

When we were in high school, and especially in our senior year, I’m sure we all knew those kids who were like, “Ugh, I hate this place, I can’t wait to leave and go to college” and maybe that was you back then, but I think that we all felt that at one time. Whether it was because your parents were frustrating you, the “drama” at school, or just that genuine interest in trying something new.

I fell into that last category. I just couldn’t comprehend why people hated our school/community so much. I mean, we have Marathon (which just received recognition around the nation, I’m proud to say), mostly we have good teachers, and the usual gossip and bullying that you’d find in almost any high school.

But even when we think we want nothing to do with where we came from, there’s a part that knows that we’re gonna miss something from home. So, when we go off to college, and especially during the first semester when we’re trying to adjust from high school to college education and residence, we yearn to go home and see the friends we left behind and cuddle with the pets we miss (and maybe spend time with the parents too).

As I sit here at home, I realize that life’s kinda boring when I’m at home now and I miss Saint Rose. Don’t get me wrong; I’m glad for the week off, but I wish I could spend it with the people that also have time off since other schools don’t have vacations yet. I guess I’m at that point where I wish I could combine Saint Rose living with my friends, animals, parents, and the natural setting of home into a truly amazing time. I suppose you can’t always get what you want, when you want! But maybe if you’re patient enough, things will work out… 🙂

DFTBA and enjoy the rest of your break!
