We have arrived!

Hola! We are happy to share that we have arrived in Antigua, Guatemala and our service trip is off to a great start. Our group of 12 flew out of John F. Kennedy International Airport around 7 AM on Monday, May 11th. After a layover in Atlanta, Georgia, we arrived in Guatemala City and then drove for about an hour and a half to Antigua. This is where we met Natalie, the Visitor and Volunteer Coordinator for Education for the Children Foundation who we are working with.

We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived at the location where we will be living for the next two weeks. We are placed in two beautiful apartments in the same building. Although we are sad that we will not exactly be getting the experience of living with a family, this will be beneficial for us so that nobody finds themself traveling alone or excluded from the group. Our meals have been fantastic thanks to Doña Marie. She is a lovely Guatemalan woman who has opened her doors and welcomed us into her house for breakfast and dinner every day. We have been eating lunch at The School of Hope, where we are volunteering.

At school, we have been divided into two groups. We alternate between cleaning/painting the school and working in the classrooms. We are all in agreement, however, that playing with the students during their breaks is the most rewarding.

Here are some pictures to show how we are off to a great start and really enjoying ourselves!
