Many Saint Rose students are familiar with the Camelot Room, Starbucks and the Dining Hall, but where do you go to eat if you want something off campus? After several years of being a Saint Rose student, I have a few favorite eating spots.
Pizza and Chinese food are very popular among resident students. When it comes to pizza, there is no shortage of options within a 2-mile radius of campus. Two of my personal favorites are Madison’s Pizza (at the corner of Ontario and Madison) and Mild Wally’s (by the corner of Quail and Western). Madison’s Pizza offers tons of pizza topping options and Mild Wally’s has the Big Fried Dough (at $3.99, it’s an amazing dessert to split between a few people!). For Chinese food, Xinlong Chinese Restaurant (located next to Subway and Dunkin Donuts on the corner of Madison and West Lawrence) is a good spot to try that’s not too far from campus. They have an awesome $5 lunch special if you’re looking for a quick, affordable lunch. You can find many more quick-service restaurants around campus by doing a simple Google search. You may be surprised to see how many options there are!
Here’s a Google Map showing the many restaurants in the city of Albany:
If you’re looking to go a little farther from campus, I like DiBella’s Subs (in the University Plaza at 1235 Western Avenue). They have all kinds of subs to satisfy your tastebuds! If you’re looking for something a little healthier, I also recommend Fresh Healthy Café (lower-level of Crossgates Mall). They offer healthy smoothies, salads, paninis, wraps and soups galore. The good news is that you can travel to both of these spots for free (just show your Saint Rose ID) on the CDTA Route 10 bus! In fact, you can travel on the CDTA to most restaurants in the Albany-area for free using your Saint Rose ID.
Have you tried any of the places I mentioned? What are your favorite spots to eat off campus? Leave a comment below and let me know your favorite off-campus restaurants!
I’ve been to Junior’s, which is a sports bar with seating and really tasty food. It’s not to expensive either!
I’ve been to Juniors too, Colin! You’re right–the prices fit well with a college-student budget and the food tastes good too! Thanks for the comment!
Bro’s Tacos on Ontario is a very tasty and affordable option! When I lived in the Pine Hills I bet we would order once a week!

You should definitely check out Mingle: http://www.minglealbany.com/
Chef Un-Hui’s Korean dishes are absolutely amazing.
Thanks for the suggestion, Doug! I checked out the menu and there are several items on the menu that I’d love to try!
