Do you have a dream? Do you know what will truly make you happy? These very same questions are what go through my mind ever since my freshman year. These questions sparked the minds of two college graduates who were working jobs that weren’t fulfilling their dreams to create the a documentary, “The Dream Share Project”.
If you weren’t there in St. Joseph Hall on Wednesday night at 7:30 you REALLY missed out! There was FREE popcorn and drinks! The Saint Rose Career Center hosted a documentary that all college students needed to see.
Chip Hyden and Alexis Irwin, filmmakers, have been together since High School. After graduating from college they did
what every graduate is supposed to do, get a job. However, what if the job turns out to not be your passion? Hyden and Irwin saved their money over a period of time , put their two weeks in, and planned a road trip across America. The objective of the trip was to interview people following their passion and to learn how to chase one’s dream.
The project departed August 25 with a car full of: clothes, a tent and survival food. I give the couple a huge round of applause for cutting costs by sleeping in a tent every night and preparing their own meals with a plug-in skillet. That is really roughing it!
The journey was full of interviews with entrepreneurs, film makers, comedians, designers and many more. The interviews touched on these points: discovering your dream, commitment, challenges and success. Let me break down the vital components for you:
Reasons not to commit:
-
Not realistic
-
Too much of a risk
- Parents
- Fear
Success
- Don’t let anyone decide your dream
- Do what you love
- Be adventurous
- Find your passion
“The Dream Share Project” left me with this lasting impression:
Risk taking+passion+hard work=increase in success
As my grandfather told me, “you are your own limitation”.
-Salutations
