Saint Rose in NOLA 2013

It’s officially day three of our alternative spring break in New Orleans, and we’ve wrapped up two days of volunteering with an organization called lowernine.org. So far our group of 16 has worked on a few different projects. We’ve done painting on a couple of different houses and some extensive cleanup work/restoration on another house.

Tomorrow we have the opportunity to attend the groundbreaking of the firehouse in the lower ninth ward. Note my use of the word “the” and not “a.” It is the first to return to the lower ninth ward since Katrina. Can you imagine living in a community without emergency services for years?

I’ll have plenty of photos and video to share when I return, but here are a few to get a better idea of what we are doing. Enjoy!

About the author

Kayla Germain

Well, I have the best job on campus (in my opinion...). I'm the E-Media Coordinator for Saint Rose- I organize, monitor, and contribute to the College's main social media channels. Random facts about me: I drive a scooter, my dog is named after a fruit, and my favorite food is cheese. Yes- just cheese.
