Day one is done!
Kinda sorta day two, since we arrived yesterday, but today was the first day of work in New Orleans. We arrived this morning for our first day orientation with lowernine.org and we’re split into two initial work groups. The first set went to the “farm,” which is an urban garden that grows vegetables for a local farmers market. The second set went to work doing restoration on a business/apartment building.
I’ll be honest, it was a long day, though really rewarding. I was in the gardening group and we did a little of everything- weeding, planting, watering, building raised bed gardens…a mix. Might not sound like a lot, but gardening for eight hours in the hot Louisiana sun wears on you after a while.
I’m looking forward to maybe switching things up a little tomorrow!
