Get to know Sarah Heikkinen:

What’s your favorite part of your job?

My favorite part of my job is definitely getting to know all of you while I run around making content for the College. Saint Rose students are easily some of the best people I’ve had the pleasure of working with. I’m so happy every time you let me snap a pic of you and your buds for our Story or send me the awesome things your clubs and organizations are doing to share with your fellow students!

What’s something you want students to know about you?

I want all of you to know that I am completely and utterly approachable. If you want to get involved with our social media somehow, I’m here. If you want me to promote something you’re doing in the ITK, I’m here. (Yes, I’m the one who writes the student newsletter and the Get to Know Saint Rose profiles, and yes, I’m answering my own Q&A right now. Don’t think about it too much.) I really want your time at Saint Rose to be unforgettable, so whether it’s starring in one of the College’s TikToks or getting help boosting the cool things your club is doing, I’m here for you!

If you could give students one piece of advice to carry them through their time here, what would it be?

I know it sounds a bit cliche, but it’s honestly so important to get involved in your community! However you do that is totally up to you – join (or start!) a club, apply for internships or work study jobs that interest you, get to know people in your classes better … the list goes on. You’re going to make some incredible lifelong friends while you’re in college, so don’t squander any opportunities you have to meet those people and cultivate those relationships.

Also, please explore this awesome place you get to live in for four years! New York’s Capital Region is truly so special, so try to get off campus now and then to get to know it better. Honestly, there are countless places to explore, whether you’re a foodie, an avid hiker, an artist, or just naturally curious!

What do you think?
